Mediacom and Sinclair Agree to Short-Term Extension of Retransmission Consent Agreement

Jan 06, 2010 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Mediacom Communications announced that it has entered into an eight-day extension of its current retransmission consent agreement with Sinclair Broadcast Group.

"I'd like to thank Senator John Kerry and the dozens of other federal, state and local leaders for intervening on behalf of consumers and recognizing that the American public should not be used as pawns in retransmission consent negotiations," said Rocco B. Commisso, Mediacom's Chairman and CEO. "This extension will allow our customers to enjoy their holiday television programming. We sincerely hope an agreement can be reached within this extension period or that it will lead to a process, whether before the FCC or another venue, that will achieve the objective of protecting consumers' continued access to programming at a reasonable cost." Terms of the extension were not disclosed. Mediacom said its good faith complaint against Sinclair continues to be pending before the FCC, and Sinclair's behavior during the extension period will be considered as part of the totality of the circumstances considered by Commission.
