Verizon expands wireless network in Westland, Michigan

(EquityBites Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) US wireless communications provider Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in Westland, Michigan, the company announced on Monday.

The company said that this expansion of its wireless service will enable more customers in the area to enjoy clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell site, which is equipped with a permanent backup generator for times of emergency, reportedly improves voice and data coverage and capacity in Westland and along the Cherry Hill Road between Interstate 275 and Wayne Road; and the South Newburgh Road between Ford Road and Palmer Road.

Verizon said that it has invested over USD55bn since it was formed in 2000 to increase the coverage and capacity of its nationwide network and to add new services, including over USD1.4bn on improvements to its wireless network in Michigan.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone (Nasdaq:VOD)(LSE: VOD).
