Telenav -Scout for iPhone is the First Navigation App that Lets You Search Ahead along Your Route and Offers Parking Suggestions When You Arrive

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 18 April 2014 Release date- 17042014 - Sunnyvale, California - It happens all the time.

You're on your way to your destination and you realize you need gas. Or your child needs to use the bathroom. Or you have a craving for a latte. Most GPS navigation apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps don't let you search while you're already navigating. Those that do ignore the fact that you're already headed somewhere, which means they may suggest a gas station or coffee shop that requires you to turn around and go back, or to deviate far off of your planned route, wasting precious time. That all changes today with Telenav's (NASDAQ: TNAV) update of its Scout for iPhone app. With this new version, Scout gets even smarter and helps people find restaurants, coffee shops, or gas stations that are right along their route - and lets them easily add these as pit stops. Watch how it works here: http://youtu.be/IU3dKuJp-Zw 'We've all been in situations where we've needed to make a stop, but don't want to go too far off our route and delay our arrival at our eventual destination,' said Ashita Achuthan, director of search and discovery for Scout. 'Context is everything, and when you're already driving somewhere, you're looking to make a decision easily, and be confident that it's a good one - like whether a place is conveniently ahead of you or requires a detour.

We found that 80 percent of all searches made during navigation are for gas, coffee or food, so we've made those searches easily accessible with no typing required. We've also noticed that 15 percent of searches during navigation are for popular chains or brands, and so those along your route can now be seen by selecting the 'Popular' chains option.' More Updates: Personalized Dashboard with People-Powered Suggestions (BETA) Scout users will also see a new, personalized dashboard with an interactive map that will automatically highlight and suggest nearby places to eat and drink based on the places that Scout users have favorited, driven to, or called. Because breakfast and coffee are better in the morning and sushi and sake are more appropriate for dinner, suggestions also change depending on day of week, time of day, and location.

The Scout dashboard also displays real-time ETA to the user's Home or Work on the map and allows the user to report traffic conditions wherever they are, even while not in navigation mode. Scout users can tap on the map to save their current location and mark it as a favorite. Tapping on a location on the map will also give people the option of sharing a spot with friends to meet up or to recommend a favorite destination via Facebook or Twitter.

Arrival Guide with Parking Suggestions (BETA) Sometimes the most frustrating part of a journey is finding a parking spot. With that in mind, Scout for iPhone now provides suggestions and guidance to the closest and cheapest parking lots near your destination. Drivers can view all nearby spots on an overview map and decide based on location and price. Parking information is updated in real-time and covers 100 major metropolitan cities, including 11,600 garages and 115 airports, with more to be added later this year.

'According to McKinsey and Company*, 20 percent of driving time is spent looking for parking, yet none of the other popular GPS navigation apps provide parking suggestions as part of the arrival experience,' continued Achuthan. 'If you've been disappointed by the default navigation apps, and you're looking for a smarter and more personalized navigation experience, now is a good time to try Scout.' Scout for iPhone is a free app and currently ranked in the top five in the free navigation category in the Apple App Store.
