Harris Stratex Networks, Inc., the world’s largest independent supplier of wireless transmission systems, reportedly exhibited at AfricaCom 2009, Africa's premier communications congress and exhibition.

The show, which took place Nov. 11-12 at the Cape Town International Convention Center in South Africa, is a yearly gathering of Africa's telecommunications leaders. At the event, more than 4,000 stakeholders in the continent's telecoms market gathered to learn about the latest trends, share experiences and network at the event

During the event, Paul Kennard, senior vice president and chief technical officer of Harris Stratex (News - Alert) Networks, and Peter Correia, chief operating officer of Vodacom Tanzania,  presented the “how to” of  preparing networks for broadband to support high-quality mobile and corporate communications services.

Harris Stratex Networks (News - Alert) also showcased its Eclipse Packet Node high-speed IP wireless backhaul platform. The Eclipse Packet Node is a packet-based, wireless nodal solution that provides the scalable capacity, IP network intelligence and key convergence features required for 4G mobile network migration. It was recently honored with the 2009 Wireless Backhaul Distinction Award from Technology Marketing Corporation and Crossfire Media.

The Eclipse Packet Node platform seamlessly supports TDM, as well as carrier-grade Ethernet data traffic through scalable Liquid Bandwidth software. The extensive use of nodal architecture provides carriers with the ability to configure TDM or Ethernet services as and when they are required.

According to Kennard, since the growth of the mobile communication industry in Africa is at present outpacing the rest of the world, mobile operators require the backhaul infrastructure to help them meet the demand for the launch of new mobile services. Harris Stratex Networks has the expertise and products to help operators and carriers meet this demand now and in the future.

Kennard said that AfricaCom 2009 gave Harris Stratex Networks the opportunity to meet with its African partners and customers to further discuss how it can improve the mobile user experience across the nation.
