A new 128,000-square-foot facility at 5200 Great America Parkway in Santa Clara, California has been opened by Aviat Networks, Inc., the wireless expert in advanced IP migration solutions. Aviat Networks, previously known as Harris Stratex (News - Alert) Networks, Inc. announced that this location will be its new Corporate Headquarters as part of the company’s global re-branding efforts.

This particular facility was selected by Aviat (News - Alert) Networks executives as the building owners, DJM Capital Partners had agreed to meet the company’s environmental needs. Lower operational costs were also an influential factor. To qualify for a Gold LEED or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the facility was completely renovated. The certification is based on design and construction activities in each of the five LEED credit categories.

As part of the renovation, widespread introduction of “green” materials like bamboo flooring and desks made from compressed recycled paper were made. Carbon-free energy was introduced with the use of solar panels. Employees have been encouraged to use the public transportation. Leveraging on recycling and salvaging of building construction, more than 95 percent of the waste away from the landfill was successfully diverted.

In a release, Harald Braun (News - Alert), CEO, Aviat Networks said, “Over the last 20 years, Aviat Networks has built a solid reputation in Silicon Valley as a leader of high quality and innovative mobile wireless solutions. We have strong ties to the community which have been critical to our company's continued growth and success.”

Braun added the company believes this is the best place to relocate company headquarters as it is a leading hub for research, cutting edge technology and investment. After the decision to relocate, they were sure about moving into a completely eco-friendly building that supported Aviat's commitment to the ‘greening’ of the company.

As the company strives to make the world's telecom networks “green” through its products and services, the company also takes equal corporate responsibility to reduce carbon footprint in everyday workplace, concluded Braun.

The Exploratory Group on Green, the task force for the Green Initiative of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions is also led by Aviat Networks to decrease the carbon footprint, increase the energy efficiency and reduce costs at telecom sites.
