Bringing broadband solutions to the masses appears to be a focus for a number of governments, yet the pace of implementation has been somewhat lacking. For those surfing the Internet in Wiltshire in the U.K., however, broadband speeds are about to get much faster. BT (News - Alert) is planning significant upgrades to improve broadband solutions.
This move was recently reported in a Wiltshire Business Online article, highlighting the company’s plans to nearly double its super-fast fibre broadband download speeds from up to 40Mbps to up to 80 Mbps. This move toward improved broadband solutions will benefit some 50,000 homes and businesses in Swindon, Toothill and Blunsdon.
Paul Briggs, chief executive, Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group told Wiltshire Business Online that this broadband solutions move will provide a further boost for businesses, families and those individuals who work from home. Upload rates are already the fastest in the U.K. and will increase from up to 10Mbps to 20Mbps.
BT’s local network business, Openreach, is investing nearly $4 billion to make broadband solutions over fibre available to two-thirds of U.K. premises by the end of 2014. The anticipated higher speeds will also benefit those in Chippenham, Trowbridge and Melksham. Other communities are also earmarked for upgrades, all part of the roll-out of super-fast broadband solutions for extended communities such as Westbury, Calne, Warminster and Salisbury.
County businesses are readily welcoming these advancements in broadband solutions. Briggs contributed that this super-fast broadband has brought significant improvements and as a result of this move by BT, is now slated to become even faster. This is considered to be fundamental to the economic growth in these regions, as well as for attracting inward investment.
Companies are increasingly relying on fast broadband to better communicate with customers and suppliers, as well as to become more competitive and market themselves more effectively. Access to high-speed, high-quality broadband solutions is an important tool in ensuring rural businesses can maintain their competitiveness while also developing new market opportunities.
BT’s Southwest regional director, Jon Reynolds, noted that this important new development in broadband solutions will significantly improve the broadband speeds available across parts of Wiltshire and around a number of others areas of the U.K. BT is playing an important role in making super-fast broadband solutions a reality, providing productivity gains for businesses and families.
Reynolds stressed that BT’s own commercial super-fast broadband solutions roll-out plan will reach two thirds of U.K. homes and businesses by the end of 2014. The company also welcomes the opportunity to work with the public sector to make this next generation technology available in the more challenging region of the covered market.
As users throughout the world continue to demand access to faster broadband solutions, telecommunications providers have an opportunity to build out their services and enhance the customer experience.
