MEN Micro has expanded its CompactPCI (News - Alert) Serial offering with a rugged 3U Ethernet Switch the G301.

MEN Micro provides embedded computing and I/O solutions for mission-critical industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications.

The newly released Switch features four Gigabit Ethernet ports via RJ45 or M12 connectors in the front, and complies with the PICMG (News - Alert) CompactPCI Serial standard fully ratified at Embedded World 2011.

The company notes that an optional fifth Gigabit Ethernet port can also be made accessible at the rear via the J6 connector.

The G301 has especially developed the Ethernet switch for mobile communication in harsh environments. It is certified for operation in the extended temperature range of -40°F to +70°C with +85°C possible for up to ten minutes according to railway standard EN 50155.

The G301 features integrated self-test mechanisms, due to which it is very reliable in communication systems.

The product also has the ability to support full and half duplex, fast non-blocking store-and-forward switching and auto negotiation as well as Layer-2 switching. MEN Micro claims this robust switch is fault-tolerant and restores itself automatically.

For instance, if a link is temporarily unavailable, the G301 will work again after the disturbance without any restart or reset.

According to a release, the board provides supports to Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) with Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) for up to four external devices with a total power consumption of 28 W.

Elaborating further on its product, the company says that the G301 uses a configuration EEPROM, and can be exactly tailored to each application's requirements.

MEN Micro adds that all components are soldered to withstand shock and vibration and are prepared for conformal coating.
