MetroPCS Communications Inc. has launched the Bridgewater Home Subscriber Server (HSS) and Policy Controller (PCRF) to deliver 4G LTE (News - Alert) services. The announcement was made today at 4G World, a next-generation technology conference, held this week, October 18-21, in Chicago.  

Officials with Bridgewater said that the company is supplying its independent, high performance control plane to manage mobile data traffic, subscribers, devices and applications and personalize services for MetroPCS’ 4G LTE network.

This includes the Bridgewater Policy Controller, which supports 3GPP PCRF Release 7, 8 and 9 standards on the same platform, provides real-time network, application, and subscriber policies to manage mobile data growth and deliver personalized services; and

It also includes, the Bridgewater Home Subscriber Server, a master repository that contains subscriber and device profile and state information, and manages subscriber identities, service profiles, authentication, authorization, and quality of service in real time.

Chao said that Bridgewater delivered the high performance, independent control plane functionality that the company needed in its multi-vendor 4G LTE network, and, as expected, the company has been extremely pleased with the HSS and PCRF project deployment.
