Mobile personalization company Bridgewater Systems announced that the Bridgewater EPC 500, an integrated LTE (News - Alert) system, is gaining significant market traction with partners and five major operators globally.

Bridgewater EPC 500 is a trial-ready “control-plane-in-a-box” system for the LTE evolved packet core, and is pre-integrated on a hardware platform and fully compliant with 3GPP Release 8 standards. It provides subscriber and device data management, policy control, and inter-working functions for EPC, said company officials.

Specifically designed to support trials and small to medium scale deployments, Bridgewater EPC 500 features Bridgewater Home Subscriber Server and Policy Controller, anchored by Bridgewater's Subscriber Data Broker.

With Bridgewater EPC 500, mobile operators can deploy smart subscriber, service and policy controls to manage the complexities of exponential mobile data traffic growth, and millions of subscribers, devices and applications, said company officials.

Mobile operators can launch LTE trials and early deployments up to 100,000 subscribers using a fully integrated and tested EPC system to support functions such as subscriber and service modeling, roaming, and quality of service management. Plus, the EPC 500 supports migration to separate HSS and PCRF platforms to meet large scale commercial deployment requirements, said company officials.

“Our early success with the EPC 500 integrated ‘control-plane-in-a-box’ system coupled with our deep expertise in large scale deployments across all mobile access technologies is giving us a significant competitive advantage in the market,” said David Sharpley (News - Alert), senior vice president at Bridgewater Systems.

Bridgewater has said that it’s providing its new EPC 500 system for LTE trials with five Tier 1 mobile operators in Asia Pacific and North and South America. Plus, the company continues to expand its partner and interoperability ecosystem to accelerate the industry’s evolution to LTE, said company officials.

Company officials said that they have also “successfully” completed extensive interoperability testing with LTE components provided by its 4G partner and interoperability ecosystem including the mobility management entity, and serving and packet data network gateways.

“Bridgewater’s strategy of focusing on the LTE control plane including the Home Subscriber Server, Policy Controller and interworking functions positions us well for 4G deployments and trials in 2010 and beyond,” said Sharpley.
