Cache IQ Releases RapidCache NAS Acceleration Solution

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Cache IQ, an enterprise storage solutions company, announced the limited release of its RapidCache solution, the intelligent, high-performance network attached storage (NAS) caching appliance.

RapidCache delivers enhanced performance to I/O intensive applications while reducing the load of overburdened storage subsystems. The solution identifies applications' active data sets, and then uses a combination of DRAM and SSDs to dramatically improve performance.

Company officials say that RapidCache is different from traditional NAS accelerators because it provides a smart approach to NAS caching by using simple policies to control what data gets cached. This approach yields the best performance for the most important applications.

Cache IQ's new approach provides NAS storage managers with an all-in-one caching solution that doesn't require an upgrade of their current NAS systems. RapidCache actually makes existing storage work faster and smarter, with the cache now being the performance tier responsible for data delivery.

Another feature of RapidCache is that it delivers unprecedented insight into storage through RapidView, its fully integrated analytics and visualization product. With this visibility, RapidView enables administrators to assess network storage performance and troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and efficiently.

The solution installs seamlessly without requiring any changes to clients, applications or storage. It accelerates performance to multiple backend subsystems regardless of vendor.

“With RapidCache, enterprises no longer have to buy capacity just to get performance," said Greg Dahl, executive vice president, Products and Strategy of Cache IQ, in a statement. "Instead of blindly caching data or attempting to tier storage, RapidCache maximizes existing storage investments.”

The solution provides complete usage visibility, speeds up the applications by caching the most critical data, and automatically troubleshooting bottlenecks, Dahl added.

Cache IQ is a startup led by former NetQoS (News - Alert) co-founder Joel Trammell. Earlier this year, the company announced it has raised $5 million from 25 private investors. The company was founded in July, when Trammell and co-founder Greg Dahl purchased the intellectual property of Austin-based Storspeed for an undisclosed price.
