dominKnow LCMS 5.2 Feature Update Offers Best-In-Class PowerPoint Support

PERTH, ONTARIO, Apr 16, 2009 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- Organizations looking to leverage libraries of existing training material created in Microsoft PowerPoint will benefit tremendously from a dramatically improved import process and a much greater range of options for improvement and re-use with the announcement of an exciting feature update for the dominKnow Learning Content Management System (dominKnow LCMS).

The feature enhancement allows users of the dominKnow LCMS to quickly upload and import PowerPoint files directly into the LCMS's integrated Authoring Tool. Once imported, all pages are fully editable making it simple for users to maintain and update content over time. The imported pages can also be easily edited to add engaging learning interactions that improve the learning experience for an online audience.

The import process extracts all media assets - including images, audio files and video files - from the PowerPoint file and automatically imports them into the dominKnow LCMS's asset manager. These assets can be made instantly available for re-use in other online courses. They can also be quickly tagged to save valuable time during searches.

Additionally, the PowerPoint file's master slides are extracted and used to automatically create layout templates that can be used for any online course. This helps organizations take advantage of existing branding and look-and-feel standards, saving time and money when creating online courses.

A critical consideration when taking advantage of PowerPoint files created for face-to-face training for creating online courses is the fact that in face-to-face situations, the PowerPoint screens are used to support the presentation of information - but so much critical knowledge is presented by the instructor. The enhanced import features bring all speakers notes into the Authoring Tool as developer notes, allowing them to be easily incorporated into the online learning content. This ensures that this critical content is conveyed to the online learner in the best way possible.

"In a matter of minutes a training team can go from an instructor-led PowerPoint file to an online learning experience with engaging interactivity, a full suite of testing and assessment options and critical evaluation tools like surveys and polls," says Chris Van Wingerden, Vice President Learning Solutions for dominKnow Learning Systems. "Since the imported files become full Authoring Tool pages, the entire range of LCMS features becomes available, including recording narration and exporting text for translation as well as automatically being supported by the LCMS's reporting and security features." The imported files are fully compatible with any SCORM-compliant or AICC-compliant third-party Learning Management System (LMS) or can be delivered through the cost-effective dominKnow Learning Center. The courses can also be delivered to mobile devices including the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.

The feature enhancements make the dominKnow LCMS one of the most robust Learning Content Management Systems for working with legacy training content created in Microsoft PowerPoint.
