StudyBoost Launches Education Industry's First Interactive Studying Solution for Text (SMS) Messaging or Popular Instant Messaging Platforms
BROOKLYN, NY, Aug 29, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
StudyBoost(TM) today announced the launch of its StudyBoost.com
mobile learning (mLearning) platform, the education industry's first
solution to allow studying via interactive SMS text or instant
messaging (IM) platforms. Previously in beta mode, StudyBoost.com
already has a large following of teachers and students. The official
launch of StudyBoost.com brings a variety of new features including
open-ended questions, a comprehensive statistics page and more.
StudyBoost.com is enabling interactive mobile studying for any
grade-level or higher education students that have access to any
SMS-text capable cell phone, smartphone or an instant messaging
client. A student or teacher first adds StudyBoost as a friend for
their IM account or as a contact in their phone and then sets up a
batch of questions and answers, all on StudyBoost.com. There is also
a library of batches that can be used. Batches can be individualized
or shared among many, such as an entire class.
Once set up, students send the word "go" from their phone's text
messaging platform or IM client to receive the batch questions. Then,
the student types "next" to receive the first question and they're
off studying. Answers are typed in using full words. For example, if
a student is asked "Alabama" for the batch "50 States and Capitals,"
they would type "Montgomery" and send the answer. A response is
provided whether the question was answered correctly or incorrectly.
Using simple number and word commands, students can ask for an answer
if they don't know it, ask to return to a previous question, ask to
repeat or go to the next question, and more. These commands are
engineered to simulate an actual study conversation. Questions can
also be made with answers that are multiple choice, true / false,
fill-in and even essay answers.
Advanced settings on StudyBoost.com allow customization per user such
as: sending answers first instead of questions; setting time delays
between questions; randomizing questions; replying with a correct
answer if answered wrong or asking the student to try again; and
more.
Pricing and New Features at Launch
Currently being offered for free,
StudyBoost.com allows the use of social media to enable mLearning via
text messing or a variety of supported IM platforms. Supported IM
platforms currently include: AOL AIM; Facebook Chat; Google Chat;
ICQ; Jabber; Live Messenger; MSN; and Yahoo! Messenger, whether from
a computer or phone app.
New features unveiled today include open-ended questions where
answers are hidden from students, but students can answer in their
own words, allowing the teacher to then export from the statistics
page and grade answers. A new statistics page also includes the
ability to view percentages per batch and student; to view the number
of questions answered correctly or incorrectly; to view the number of
consecutive questions answered correctly or incorrectly; and to view
a history of past answers. There is now also an ability to embed an
IM-style chat box within Moodle and other educational websites so
StudyBoost studying can be accomplished there. StudyBoost generates
the code to copy and paste for embedding within the desired web page.
"With StudyBoost.com, learning via social media has reached a new
standard of interactivity whereby students can become more engaged in
learning beyond the classroom while they are on the go," said Raphael
Hickling, Founder and President of StudyBoost. "Whether you are a
teacher looking for technology as a way to better engage and teach
your students or a student looking to study before your next exam
while being mobile, StudyBoost provides the first truly interactive
method to studying, right from your cell phone, smartphone or IM
client."
Other popular features requested by current users and now available
on StudyBoost.com include an ability to copy and paste questions and
answers from Excel(R) or any other spreadsheet or chart directly into
your batch. You can also combine batches, so students can study
midterm or final exam questions that would otherwise span multiple
batches. Digital flash cards can now be made for batches to embed on
a website. StudyBoost generates the code to copy and paste to embed
in the desired web page. Teachers also have an ability to allow
users, such as teacher aids or students, to contribute to batches --
to edit and add questions and answers.
StudyBoost is available via www.studyboost.com where users can
currently sign up for a free account or access their existing
account.
