Mobile printing made simple, Mopria certifies CSR IPS print interpreter software

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 24 October 2014 Release date- 23102014 - CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announces that its IPS Universal Print Interpreter has received certification for compliance with the Mopria Alliance mobile printing standard.

Mopria certification ensures the ability to connect and pass information between a certified mobile device and any brand-certified printer, resulting in a seamless mobile printing experience. Implementation of the Mopria mobile printing protocol highlights the leading compatibility and performance of CSR's IPS software, already the printer industry's most widely adopted print interpreter solution.

The Mopria Alliance is a consortium that brings together leading global technology companies to pursue the goal of providing simple wireless printing from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. The Mopria standard makes printing from mobile devices even simpler than traditional PC-based printing.

Using an industry standard for mobile printing ensures that consumers can instantly print wirelessly from their mobile devices to identified printers without additional setup procedures. As an executive member of the Alliance and the only global vendor that provides a complete SoC, connectivity and software solution, CSR is at the forefront of the development and adoption of standards for mobile printing.

Market intelligence firm IDC predicts that the mobile worker population will reach 1.3 billion by 2015, or 37.2% of the total workforce. IDC research also indicated that 75% of smartphone and tablet users want to be able to print from their mobile devices by 2015.

'Many documents are too complex to read on a small screen, so being able to print them on a nearby printer is a massive convenience, especially for enterprise workers,' said Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President, Business Group at CSR. 'By adding Mopria support, CSR is taking another important step in our vision of providing consumers with high quality, convenient wireless printing.' CSR's IPS Universal Print Interpreter software also enables printers to reliably handle print jobs sent from the Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print mobile printing protocols as well as a wide variety of traditional sources such as desktop and graphics arts applications, ERP systems and engineering applications. IPS optimises rendering of PDF files, the preferred format for Mopria and other mobile printing protocols, using a native interpreter and a transparent rendering model. It does so without ever converting to a different format or 'flattening' transparent content.

IPS is the industry's only shipping solution supporting all standard print languages - PostScript, PDF, PCL 5, PCL 6 and XPS. By unifying all print languages into a single solution, the IPS Universal Print Interpreter allows printer and MFP manufacturers to reduce cost by minimising the memory footprint for both RAM and flash ROM.

About the MopriaTM Alliance The MopriaTM Alliance is a non-profit membership organization of leading global technology companies with the initial goal of simplifying printing from smartphones, tablets and other devices. The Alliance develops and promotes technology standards that deliver an intuitive experience connecting different devices and mobile operating systems.

The adoption of these standards allow users to seamlessly interact with a printer, regardless of brand. Plus, app downloads and setups for new mobile devices or printers will become unnecessary. Look for Mopria certified printers and accessories for simple printing with Mopria-enabled mobile devices.
