Empowering Company-Wide Safety Participation - Software Company Launches Complimentary New Tool

TORONTO, July 14, 2016 /CNW/ - eCompliance today, unveiled its new Hazard Assessment Module; an advanced, free hazard assessment tool to help companies reduce hazardous risks and protect employees. This cloud-based technology is an intuitive and accessible database service that identifies, tracks and communicates workplace hazards across all job levels and job sites.

"The eCompliance team is proud to be the first to offer a free software to actively manage workplace hazard assessments," says Adrian Bartha, CEO of eCompliance. "The key to managing workplace hazards is to encourage worker participation and empower them to take ownership of their own safety by eliminating or controlling risk before someone gets hurt. This free tool creates a better way to manage this process."

A recent EHS Daily Advisor Report, stated that over 90% of safety professionals believe worker participation is the most important part of workplace safety. It also identified key success factors such as management support and on site technology. Since nearly 80% of companies are still using paper processes to measure their safety programs it is very difficult to facilitate and measure worker participation. Furthermore, formal and onsite hazard assessments, though necessary, are not being done as it is too time consuming. As a leader in health and safety technology, eCompliance's hazard assessment software is closing these alarming technological and safety gaps in high-risk industries.

Prior to te official launch, the University of Alberta, which played a pivotal role in initiating the development of the hazard assessment software, along with other universities and colleges tested the tool to ensure it would be effective.

"We were struggling with paper based hazard assessments and knew there had to be a technological solution that could make the process more efficient and effective. eCompliance has a reputation for building user-friendly products so we asked their team to develop the product. We have been testing the hazard assessment software since January 2016. eCompliance's tool has proved to help structure a stronger hazard assessment process. It also helps improve communication across the organization by allowing you to generate reports and automatically distribute critical hazard information to employees," Andrew Cooper, EHS System Planning and Development Lead, University of Alberta.

"Our goal is to remove all barriers impeding workplace safety and to enhance worker participation," says Bartha. "By giving companies free access to this hazard assessment module, they will have a powerful tool to effectively develop and communicate winning risk reduction strategies and drastically improve safety records."

Why this is important now:

  • Since January 1, 2016 the Certificate of Recognition (COR) is becoming increasingly mandated to bid on construction and infrastructure projects in Ontario, and across the county. Many organizations fail the hazard assessment during the COR audit.
  • Since January 11, 2016 a new Canadian legal precedence has been set – holding employers criminally liable who do not take reasonable steps to prevent their workers from being injured or killed on the job.
  • According to the Occupational Health and Safety Code, an employer must involve affected workers in the hazard assessment process and in the controlling or eliminating of hazards.
