Lucy Woods Appointed as New Chairman of The Communications Network

EGHAM, England, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Communications Network, the leading membership organisation for the ICT industry, today announces the appointment of Lucy Woods, CEO of Viatel as its new Chairman. The role will see Lucy steer the organisation through an exciting time of new development and opportunity.
CEO of Viatel since May 2003, Lucy has over 20 years of telecoms industry experience. Under her leadership, Viatel's rapid growth and successful business strategy has led to one of the largest investments in the telecommunications industry in recent years with the company receiving $52m of refinancing by Morgan Stanley & Co.
Commenting on her appointment Lucy said; "It is an honour to be appointed Chairman of such a prestigious network. The convergence of voice and data is gathering unprecedented momentum. The Communications Network should be the very hub of industry discussion and debate on such issues, as well as playing a leading role in the education and personal development of employees within this industry."
Prior to Viatel, Lucy was responsible for WorldCom Europe Middle East and Africa where she was credited with creating the first cash-positive pan-European alternative carrier. Lucy also held numerous operational, service and marketing roles over an 18-year career with BT. She has worked for Sir Ian Vallance as executive support and, in her final role with the company, was CEO of BT Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland.
Lucy holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Imperial College in London, and began her career as an engineer with British Aerospace. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Marketing and an Associate of the City & Guilds Institute. She was a member of the Patten Commission for Policing in Northern Ireland, is currently an Independent Expert for the Review of Public Administration in Northern Ireland and a member of the CBI Council for London. She is married with two teenage children.
