Cingular Wireless Turns on 25 New Cell Sites in East Tennessee

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless customers in East Tennessee now have expanded coverage in their communities thanks to the activation of 25 new GSM cell sites during the last two weeks. GSM, or Global System for Mobile communications, is the world standard for wireless communication, used by more than a billion people in 200-plus countries.
The specific areas benefiting from the new cell sites include:
- KNOXVILLE
- Fifteen of the 25 new sites are located in Morgan and Scott counties
and are providing connecting coverage along Highway 27 from Oakridge
and Wartburg to Kentucky, including Huntsville, Oneida and Winfield,
and along Highway 63 to Interstate 75 in those areas
- Two new sites in the Loudon and Blount County areas are providing
coverage in west Loudon and southwest of Maryville between U.S.
Highway 321 and U.S. Highway 411.

- TRI-CITIES
- Four new cell sites in Greene County are providing coverage in
Greeneville along Interstate 81 and Newport Highway.
- A new cell site in Clinchport is providing coverage west of Gate
City.

- CROSSVILLE
- Two new cell sites are providing coverage in northeast Crossville, in
the Fairfield Glade area, and in southwest Crossville, in the Pomona
community and at the Crossville airport.

- SPARTA/COOKEVILLE
- A new cell site in Sparta is providing coverage along Highway 111
between Sparta and the Cookeville Airport.

Cingular Wireless plans to invest more than $160 million in its Tennessee network before year's end, integrating the Cingular and AT&T Wireless networks, increasing coverage and capacity, building 67 new cell sites, adding portable generators and back-up batteries, and offering enhanced new features. Cingular's local investment is part of a $6.2 billion commitment to enhance and expand its ALLOVER(SM) Network nationwide.
