Organization to compile directory of youth mentoring program

(Daily Oklahoman, The (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Jun. 25--Youth mentoring and tutoring programs in schools, community groups and faith-based organizations are sought for a statewide directory being assembled by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence's new Molly Boren Mentoring Initiative.

Information will be compiled in an online directory. Registered groups will be able to learn about training and networking opportunities, as well as promote their services and seek volunteers.

Members of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence unveiled the initiative during the 2005 Fall Forum to fortify mentoring programs. Organization founder David Boren has stressed the importance of mentorships in fostering academic success.

There is no charge to participate, spokeswoman Brenda Wheelock said.

For more information, call Charlotte Jones at 236-0006 or go to www.ofe.org/mentoring.
