PAL upgrades online booking, ticketing systems

(Philippine Daily Inquirer Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) PHILIPPINE AIRLINES SAID ITS INTERNET booking and electronic ticketing (e-ticket) facility will be expanded to cover international flights.

PAL completed the e-ticketing coverage for its 24 international outlets on May 17 and for 18 domestic stations on June 24 but the enhanced booking interface was pilot-tested only in local outlets.

The upgraded interface uses a new Internet booking engine provided by PALs technology partner Datalex. The system allows users to select the cheapest domestic fares, as well as confirm flight bookings.

The airline said the online booking link at its website (philippineairlines.com) provides information on the lowest available domestic fares over a seven-day period, and allows quick booking for any domestic flight, secured ticket payment and booking confirmation all within minutes.

The system immediately displays the ticket number and other flight information after payment through credit cards. Included in the booking confirmation are the applicable fares.

The enhancements were made possible by connecting the online booking facility with PALs reservations and electronic ticketing system.

The facility will enable travel agents to serve their customers faster and more efficiently.

This makes PAL at par with most major international carriers, which use the technology extensively.

This is also expected to boost e-ticketing usage in the Philippines.

The country has the second-highest e-ticketing penetration rate in Asia Pacific, next only to New Zealand, data from International Air Transport Association (IATA) showed.
