Allied Telesis Upgrades its Media Converters to Ship with Energy Star-Compliant Power Supplies

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 31, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Allied Telesis Inc., a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple-Play networks, today announced it has upgraded its extensive range of media converters to include Energy Star-compliant power supplies. The upgrade will reduce the carbon footprint produced by Allied Telesis' media converters, and will also reduce customers' associated running costs. Distributors will benefit from the integration of "interchangeable multi-region heads" for the power supplies, which will lead to lower shipping costs and simpler implementation of media converter products. This step further reinforces Allied Telesis' commitment to offering a comprehensive range of "green," energy efficient products.

There are 28 products in Allied Telesis' media converter portfolio which will benefit from the upgraded power supplies. All media converter power supplies will have Energy Star power adapters with interchangeable heads.* This allows Allied Telesis and its distributors to hold just one stock unit, which can be shipped anywhere in the world, offering reduced inventory costs and ease of deployment. In addition, Allied Telesis' customers will see a further increase in manufacturing and logistical efficiencies in the supply chain, allowing further flexibility and reduced lead times.

"We are the only company in the marketplace to offer media conversion products with Energy Star compliance," said Philip Jopa, chief technology officer, Allied Telesis. "We have estimated that based on the number of media converters Allied Telesis sells, approximately 1,500 tons of C02 will be saved per annum, with an overall customer power saving of between 20 and 25 percent, equivalent to more than $350,000 per year." The media converters with upgraded energy efficient power supplies are available from Allied Telesis this month.
