Deals worth Dh 500 mn inked at DUPHAT

Dubai, Mar 31, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- The Dubai International Pharmaceutical and Technologies conference and Exhibition concluded its fourteenth edition today with a massive success and 20% increase in participants and visitors compared to last year, with the attendance of international speakers who came from all over the glob to present their latest theories, technologies, and practices in the field of Pharmacy.

The number of attendance of the conference and exhibition reached up to 11.000 visitors, and the volume of transactions concluded during the past three days reached Dhs500m.

Speakers tackled different pharmaceutical aspects during the conference, and stressed on the importance of raising awareness among pharmacists and activate their role in educating patience about side effects of medicines.

The Deans, Professors and Doctors praised the high level of participants at DUPHAT and with the topics introduces during the lectures, and assured that such conferences are really essential for specialists to meet and exchange expertise.

Dr. Ali AL Sayed, Director of Pharmaceutical Services Department, at the Dubai Health Authority and the conference chairman said, 'This year, DUPHAT succeeded 100% in achieving its goals as a complimentary for the medical sector.' Ten students were announced winners today at poster presentation competition, students were handed certificates. First place winner was Dubai University, University of Alexandria came second and third place winner was Sharja University.

The Conference Scientific Committee released a closing release that included the following recommendations; DUPHAT 2009 recommendations: 1. Improving pharmacy practice by updating current systems with International updates and providing encouraging roles for pharmacists to provide high quality service with patient centered focus involving pharmaceutical care, patient outcomes research, rational drug use.

2. Implementing quality standards in pharmaceutical care through redesigning of our services and provide new Key Performance Indicators and analyzing outcomes followed by improvising current activities.

3. Embracing new technologies such as robotics, e-prescribing, electronic medical records and automated dispensing.

4. Improving the professional competency of the pharmacists through the regular and periodical provision of conferences, seminars, workshops and designing CE programs specifically on clinical activities and pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoeconomics.

5. Establishing new and sophisticated quality control laboratory facilities to analyze new medicines before their distribution in the market and to end the reliance on Certificate of Analysis, particularly so in the case of multi ingredient/combination medicines.

6. Coordinating to be exercised between health authorities within United Arab Emirates when it comes to formulating policies '&' procedures related to Rational Drug Use '&' Pharmacovigilance. Similarly, coordination is also recommended between the local pharmacy colleges with reference to the curriculum.

7. Establishing a center for pharmacovigilance and undertake the documentation of Adverse Drug Reactions associated with the marketing of medicines in the UAE. Furthur, also contribute and participate in the International program for ADR reporting which is implemented by WHO.

8. Encouraging the Pharmacists role in public health programs such as national smoking cessation initiatives etc.

9. Community pharmacies to play the role of pharmacovigilance data collection points and forward it to a central pharmacovigilance data pooling body.

10. Encouraging the participation of schools in the conference that will contribute to the increased health awareness in the society.
