US broadband speeds increased 28% in 2009, In-Stat survey shows

Feb 09, 2010 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- US residential broadband speeds increased by 28% during 2009, according to a new report from market intelligence firm In-Stat.

Increases in broadband speed were highest among cable modem and fixed wireless subscribers. The broadband speed increase for cable modem subscribers was about double that of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers, In-Stat found.

The research showed that the average downstream speed of a US broadband connection is now 7.12 Mb/s.

Additionally, more than one quarter of respondents in the survey had both a wired broadband connection and a mobile wireless broadband connection, In-Stat said.
