Acme Packet Offers Enhancements to Security Gateway

Jun 24, 2010 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Acme Packet, a provider of session border control solutions, announced a series of enhancements to its Net-Net Security Gateway to enable service providers to scale their fixed mobile convergence services delivered using IP-based consumer and enterprise-based femtocell, picocell and WiFi access points.

According to a release, Acme Packet's Net-Net SG is a multiservice security gateway that enables FMC by securing the delivery of voice and data services over untrusted Internet and Wi-Fi networks to femtocells, picocells and dual-mode endpoints. Infonetics Research projects that the multiservice security gateway market represents an aggregate $1.6 billion opportunity from 2010-2014.

The new features include: -Online Certificate Status Protocolsupport -Mobile Country Code and Mobile Network Code whitelisting -EAP-MD5 authentication -IPv6 support for IPsec -Cipher suite expansion -Statistics for IPsec Security Associations -IPsec accounting records "As femtocell and FMC services move from trials and early stage deployments to broader commercial availability, the multiservice security gateway plays a critical role in delivering services over untrusted access networks," said Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet's executive vice president of marketing and product management. "The enhancements to our Net-Net SG strengthen security and interoperability and improve manageability allowing service providers to securely and effectively scale their services." "To date, the primary focus in the femtocell ecosystem has been on the access points themselves and network integration technologies such as Iuh or SIP," said Peter Jarich, Service Director with Current Analysis. "Now that networks are becoming operational, mobile service providers need to address the challenges of security and scalable management. These enhancements from Acme Packet tackle those issues." The Acme Packet Net-Net SG supports multiple consumer and enterprise FMC applications, including femtocell and picocell access, dual-mode handsets (UMA and SIP clients) and macro data WiFi offload. The MSG fulfills multiple functional elements in FMC architectures, including Evolved Packet Data Gateway, Packet Data Gateway, I-WLAN Tunnel Terminating Gateway, UMA/GAN Security Gateway and Femtocell Security Gateway.

Acme Packet will be exhibiting and speaking at Femtocells World Summit taking place through June 24 in London.
