McAfee, Inc. Names Cameron Diaz Most Dangerous Celeb to Search for Online (MFE,GOOG)

Aug 19, 2010 (SmarTrend News Watch via COMTEX) -- Cameron Diaz tops the list as the most dangerous celebrity to search for online, according to data from McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE).

One in ten websites featuring the actress include harmful software that could steal user passwords and other information, as well as infect a user's computer with a virus.

"They know that people want to have screensavers of popular individuals," McAfee Labs' director of security research Dave Marcus told AbcNews.com. "They follow hot topics on the web and create their poisonous content accordingly.

This relates to a larger trend of using social engineering lures. A lot of times a cyber criminal will mine Twitter, or follow Google [NASDAQ:GOOG] Trends, to poison those links. It's very clear they will use news trends to lure." Trailing behind Diaz is "Eat Pray Love" star Julia Roberts in second place, last year's top most dangerous celeb Jessica Biel, and supermodel Gisele Bundchen in fourth.

But let's not forget about the dangerous A-list men.

"Brad Pitt is historically one of the most dangerous celebrities to search on," added Marcus. "He's always up there." SmarTrend currently has McAfee in a Downtrend and is currently monitoring these developments to alert subscribers to any change of trend.

Shares of the security solutions firm are trading up 57.20% Thursday afternoon at $47.05.
