Egyptian telecom giant raises funds for Pakistan

(Daily News Egypt Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CAIRO: Telecommunications giant Orascom Telecom is leading a fundraising campaign in its native Egypt for Pakistani flood victims, trying to capitalize on the spirit of charity and giving during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

In a one-page advertisement Sunday in the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper, the Cairo-based company appeals to Egyptians to join the international community in supporting the flood victims, particularly during Ramadan.

The company has launched the campaign with a $1 million donation.

OT Egypt's largest mobile phone service provider by subscribers has operations in Pakistan, as well as several African nations and Canada.

The UN says it raised just over half of its $460 million target to provide food, shelter and clean water for to up to eight million flood victims.
