Motorola Continues Android Strategy in China


BEIJING, Jan 11, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) is gearing up in the mobile phone market through handsets based on Android operating system developed by Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG).

On January 10, 2011, Motorola launched MOTO DROID X ME811 in partnership with China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA and SEHK: 0728), which adopts Android 2.2 as the upgraded version of DROID X promoted in the US, sold at CNY 4,880 for bare terminals.



Branches of China Telecom will provide subsidies and kick off large-scale marketing and promotion for MOTO DROID X ME811 around China after the launch of the smart phone.

A top executive of Motorola Mobility Technologies (China) Co., Ltd. points out that the company is bullish on the prospects of Android mobile phones, particularly, smart phones based on the operating system.


Earlier, Sanjay Jha, chairman and CEO of Motorola Mobility, said that as long as the company launched products catering for the need of regional market, it could improve its brand influence among local customers.

In 2009, Motorola began to focus on the development of Android handsets. Its financial report for the third fiscal quarter released in October 2010 showed that its profits have been rising in the period.
