Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services Selects Logicworks to Manage Infrastructure for Enhanced Virtual Gateway

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 10/21/14 -- Logicworks, a global leader in cloud computing and managed hosting, today announced that after a competitive procurement process, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) has selected Logicworks as a strategic managed hosting and cloud computing partner for the next generation of enhancements and hosting of its Virtual Gateway portal.

The Massachusetts Health and Human Services Virtual Gateway (VG) is a centrally managed platform and Internet portal for online services provided by the fifteen agencies within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS). The VG provides over forty software applications used by more than 500,000 users including health care providers, community based organizations, the general public and EOHHS Staff. Typical uses of VG include healthcare providers submitting claims, bills, and service records to EOHHS agencies or submitting or accessing health information and residents requesting benefits such as Nutritional or Transitional Assistance.

"By consolidating information and online services in a single location on the Internet, the Virtual Gateway, a critical computing infrastructure platform, simplifies the process of connecting people to critical health and human services programs and information. Logicworks was selected for this upgrade, as a result of a competitive procurement process, to provide the infrastructure and operational managed services necessary for this project to succeed. The team has proved knowledgeable, dependable, and is allowing us to achieve ambitious goals under tight deadlines," said Manu Tandon, Chief Information Officer for Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Through Logicworks' dedicated support model, a team of named engineers was assigned, consisting of specialists in IT architecture, security, database administration, storage, networking, compliance, Linux/Windows administration, and technical project management. An assessment of the operational and technical requirements of the project resulted in a customized infrastructure with a complete managed services package.

Logicworks designed and built a state of the art system including servers, storage arrays, security hardware and software, configuration management, and monitoring software. The infrastructure was built across two physical datacenters for geographic diversity to allow the VG to continue to operate in the event of a disruption to one of the datacenters. The resulting architecture allows EOHHS to deploy mission critical applications requiring disaster tolerance in an environment that will facilitate rapid, automated fail over, while retaining the flexibility to deploy less critical applications using a more cost effective conventional approach.

Once the infrastructure was operational, the Logicworks team shifted into an operational management role, providing 24x7x365 monitoring and engineering support. Logicworks' enterprise monitoring service scans all the components and applications comprising the new Virtual Gateway. Logicworks takes responsibility for system maintenance, security, disaster recovery, database clustering, as well as virtualization and storage management.

The resulting infrastructure for Virtual Gateway is a managed, secure, compliant, high-performance, cost effective architecture that exceeds the Commonwealth's rigorous security and operational standards. EOHHS depends on Logicworks for all system-level responsibilities freeing their staff to focus on application development and conversion, in an effort to more efficiently and effectively provide government services via this enhanced computing platform.

"The complexity, cost, and time required to manage HIPAA-compliant infrastructure is driving both enterprise and public entities to Logicworks' managed cloud services," said Kenneth Ziegler, Chief Executive Officer of Logicworks. "As one of the earliest service providers to help solve the challenges facing online healthcare services, HIEs and HIXs, Logicworks has earned a reputation and track record as the industry's leading healthcare cloud provider and we are honored to have the opportunity to partner with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on this important Statewide Health & Human Services project."
