The University of Illinois established the computer science program five decades ago and has since produced thousands of creative and driven graduates who have made important contributions to computer science and to society at large. In 2004, the Siebel Center for Computer Science opened its doors and has since served more than 2,7000 computer science graduates.

The Siebel Center for Computer Science is home to more than 60 faculty members and 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students researching all aspects of computer science. The 225,000-square-foot education and research facility serves as a living laboratory to explore and evaluate emerging computing technologies and is one of the most advanced buildings on any campus.

"We are here to celebrate he long and storied history of the University of Illinois - Urbana at the vanguard of computing, computational theory, massively parallel computing, data visualization, the Internet, and the advancement of innovative human-computer interaction models," said Siebel. "This place is a dynamo of innovation. The achievements of Illinois computer science in the last half-century are without compare. That being said, as we stand at the dawn of its sixth decade, we should stand in awe, knowing that all of those accomplishments are likely to be exceeded in the coming ten years."

Siebel earned a Bachelor of Arts in history, Masters in Business Administration, Masters of Science in computer science, and a Ph.D. (Hon) in engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Siebel was inducted into the University of Illinois Engineering Hall of Fame in 2010. More information on the 50th anniversary celebration of the department and the 10th anniversary of the Siebel Center can be found in the upcoming fall issue of click!
