Tom Siebel Keynotes Annual TCIPG Cybersecurity Conference

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

C3 Energy Chairman and CEO Tom Siebel delivered the keynote address at the Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid (TCIPG) Annual Industry Workshop yesterday.

TCIPG was formed as a unique partnership of four academic institutions, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dartmouth College, University of California at Davis, and Washington State University. It collaborates with national laboratories and the utility sector to protect the U.S. power grid by significantly improving the way the power grid infrastructure is designed, making it more secure, resilient, and safe.

"The real-time integration of traditional cybersecurity malware and virus detection systems with SCADA, meter data management, customer care and billing, and other operational systems data enables grid operators to rapidly prioritize and remediate cyber attacks," said Siebel. "The integration of asset management, work order management, meter management, and customer management systems allows grid opertors to cost effectively secure the grid infrastructure and ensure NERC (News - Alert) CIP 5 compliance. All of this is enabled by the advent of the integrated smart grid analytics platform."

C3 (News - Alert) Energy launched C3 Grid Cybersecurity Analytics™ in June as a software application to provide utilities advanced diagnostics and predictive tools to identify, monitor, and reduce the risks of grid cybersecurity threats. C3 Energy also hosted more than 20 utility, university, and security experts in October for a two-day collaborative workshop to discuss the current state of smart grid operational cybersecurity and advance a software analytic roadmap specific to helping utilities manage and protect against cyber risks.

TCIPG's Annual Industry Workshop, held November 12-13, 2014, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, focused on the technology development, technology transition, education, and awareness that are essential for developing a resilient power grid. The workshop aimed to continue the ongoing dialogue among industry, utilities, government, and TCIPG researchers that leverages key strengths of each community and move toward common cybersecurity goals.
