NTT DATA Introduces Mobile App for Personal Safety

NTT DATA, Inc., a leading IT services provider, today announced the availability of NterceptTM, a mobile app developed to provide personal safety assistance to victims during a crisis situation. The app has been released during the NASSCOM's Diversity and Inclusion Summit 2015 in Bangalore, India, on January 22nd.

An offshoot of NTT (News - Alert) DATA's innovative culture and focus on employee care, Ntercept was originally created as part of an innovation initiative supporting female employees' safety in India, one of the company's largest employee bases. Ntercept is now publicly available in both India and the U.S., and both Android (News - Alert) and iOS versions of the app are available and can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple App Store. A Windows version is in development.

UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, estimates that 35 percent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual violence. NTT DATA's innovative Ntercept mobile app enables mobile phones to engage family, friends, and emergency services to facilitate communication and first responders' abilit to react to incidents and protect users, bringing an added tool to quickly communicate during a personal safety emergency.

"Women make up a sizeable and important component of our workforce and, as a company, we feel we have a responsibility to contribute to their safety - and that can be extended to all our colleagues and their families," said Madhavi Singala, vice president, delivery excellence leader and chairperson of the Women Initiative at NTT DATA, NTT DATA Global Delivery Services Ltd.

The Ntercept mobile app, once triggered, makes an emergency call and simultaneously sends text messages to a person's designated SOS (News - Alert) contact list. The SOS message will then be sent every two minutes with a distress message and the current location of the mobile user. The app also records the voice conversation at the site, which can be very useful as evidence in any future investigations.

"NTT DATA delivers innovative mobile expertise every day around the world to our corporate clients," said Imran Sayeed, senior vice president and CTO, NTT DATA, Inc. "It is gratifying to use our mobile capabilities to develop and deliver an app that allows people to feel more in control of their personal safety."

Ntercept is not just for women, and can assist anyone in a crisis situation. With 65 percent of all U.S. children below the age of 18 currently using a mobile phone, the app is also a great choice for enabling young people to contact help quickly in distressful situations with this easy-to-use app.
