Shandong Electric Power Deploys Coriant End-to-End Packet Transport Solution to Enhance Network Efficiency and Scalability

Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced that Shandong Electric Power Corporation (Shandong Electric Power), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China, has selected the Coriant® 7090 Packet Transport Platform as the foundation for its packet-optimized communications infrastructure. Shandong Electric Power is deploying Coriant's scalable Packet Transport Network (PTN) solution to cost-effectively support growing demand for network bandwidth and ensure the resilient delivery of a broad range of voice, data, and video communications. By improving utilization of network resources and enhancing service management from end-to-end, Coriant has helped Shandong Electric Power achieve savings of over 25% in operational expenses and up to 30% in capital expenses.

"A reliable end-to-end communications infrastructure plays a critical role in enabling utility operators such as Shandong Electric Power to deliver cost-efficient and dependable energy solutions to their customers," said Herbert Merz, President and Chief Operating Officer, Coriant. "Our packet transport solutions leverage technology innovation proven in the world's largest mission-critical networks and are ideal for utility providers building next-generation networks optimized for smart grid communications and best-in-class power delivery."

The Coriant PTN solution for Shandong Electric Power spans access, aggregation, and core network segments. The solution has enabled Shandong Electric Power to increase network efficiencies while ensuring the service assurance required for delay-sensitive utility communications traffic and applications, including supervisory control data, real-time grid monitoring, video conferencing and surveillance, private line, and mission-critical voice. This new, high-performance network supports a wide variety of service interfaces and traffic types, including Carrier Ethernet, MPLS-TP, PTN, OTN, and WDM. In addition, enhanced network management features and capabilities help reduce operational expenses via simplified and rapid provisioning of end-to-end services.

The Coriant 7090 product line provides utility operators an efficient and scalable packet transport solution supporting MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet (CE). This MEF (News - Alert) CE 2.0-certified solution is ideal for supporting the explosive growth of IP traffic impacting communications networks from access to the core. Service emulation capabilities for legacy services and efficient packet aggregation capabilities, coupled with the OAM features provided by MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet, also provide a seamless migration path from legacy SONET/SDH-based networks to more scalable and efficient packet-based transport networks while ensuring connection-oriented Quality of Service (QoS). Supporting a broad set of chassis and configurations, the 7090 series helps utility operators create tailored solutions based on their unique network and service requirements.
