Christian Erbe, General Manager for ECI Telecom GmbH said, "As utility operators look ahead, they must cost-effectively scale their infrastructure to support upcoming requirements without compromising performance, availability or the reliability expected from the critical services they deliver. By choosing ECI and 3M, TenneT will enjoy a new future-proof transmission network, while seamlessly converging legacy with packet traffic and keeping the required strict service availability attributes. For the last 15 years, 3M Services and ECI have worked together to bring the most cost-effective and optimized telecom solutions to their customers."

TenneT TSO is one of Europe's top 5 electricity transmission system operators (TSO). Located in the Netherlands and Germany, TenneT supplies power to more than 41 million users over 21,000 kilometers of high voltage lines. As millions depend upon the reliability of these services, the need for a resilient and highly robust system is imperative.

Network growth and smart grid applications are driving many utilities vendors to modenize their communications infrastructure. TenneT Germany is progressively migrating from legacy towards a packet-based system which provides more efficient grid management and traffic control. This transition needs to be seamless yet support legacy interfaces with low-bit rate SCADA and teleprotection. The solution must also meet environmental requirements, without compromising high availability, resilience and security.

TenneT's German electricity transport operations will employ ECI's new NPT-1200 (2U) solution and its Apollo optical transport systems. ECI's unique MPLS-TP based solutions are fully redundant to guarantee strict performance, reliability, and carrier-grade resilience. The NPT-1200's combines scalable modular architecture, a minimal footprint and power consumption in a rugged solution designed to meet environmental standards. ECI's Apollo, a compact, optimized, multi-layer transport platform, will be deployed to support TenneT's long-distance WDM links. In addition, ECI'S LightSOFT™ unified, multi-layer management system will provide full control and tight monitoring of critical data traversing the network.
