ViaSat Receives 2016 CSO50 Award from IDG's CSOCARLSBAD, Calif., Jan. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global broadband services and technology company, proudly announced it was named an honoree of a 2016 CSO50 Award from IDG's CSO. This honor was given to a select group of organizations that demonstrated their security projects created outstanding business value and thought leadership for their companies and the security industry-at-large. ViaSat will accept the award at the CSO50 Conference + Awards held April 18-20, 2016, at the Wigwam Resort, Litchfield Park, Arizona. ViaSat was honored with the CSO50 Award for its Cyber-intrusion Auto-response and Policy Management System (CAPMS) project, which was part of a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant study. The project teamed ViaSat with two leading U.S. energy companies, leveraging ViaSat's trusted networking platform, and bundled encryption, cyber sensors and real-time visualization to provide the utility operators with an actionable view of their operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) network security. The focus of the project was to detect cyber-attacks across distributed networks and enable the utilities to automatically respond to threats as predetermined by their cybersecurity policies. "As cyber-attacks increase in frequency and complexity, we need to explore new technologies, like automated incident response, to find better and more efficient ways to respond to attacks on the network," said Jerry Goodwin, chief operating officer, Government Systems Division, ViaSat. "Receiving a 2016 CSO50 Award from IDG validates our efforts to develop technology to improve cyber defenses. Automated cyber response is not only valuable in helping energy delivery systems detect and respond to threats, but it can be applied to any commercial or government network." "Security professionals know that securing an organization is about much more than mere defense today; it's also about enabling business and driving ROI," said Joan Goodchild, editor-in-chief of CSO. "Our annul CSO50 awards recognize the innovation, creativity and business acumen that goes into creating outstanding security projects. We congratulate each of our winners for their accomplishments in creating projects that not only demonstrate state-of-the-art security, but exemplary value as well." This is the second recognition for the ViaSat CAPMS project in the past two months. The program was also recognized as a finalist in the Fierce Innovation Award–Energy Edition, highlighting ViaSat's cybersecurity work as a key contributor to making the U.S. smart grid more resilient and secure.
