First North American LTE Network

Ericsson announced the launch of the MetroPCS' Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.

Ericsson is the primary provider of infrastructure for MetroPCS and its 4G LTE networks and the solutions from Ericsson are purported to enhance customer experience for web, online gaming, social media collaboration and video streaming while on the go.

Officials with MetroPCS have commented that Ericsson’s global experience and vision surrounding 4G LTE were significant reasons for the selection as one of the key infrastructure partners. Both the companies have worked closely to rapidly build and launch a high-quality 4G LTE network in the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.

MetroPCS will be continuing its roll out of 4G LTE networks in its remaining metropolitan areas in the remainder of 2010 and early 2011 and while at it will be leveraging Ericsson’s technology leadership to bring its customers an exciting broadband experience.

The LTE network at the Dallas/Fort area will provide MetroPCS subscribers with faster, more efficient transfers of data, video, images and more, in an efficient and cost-effective way. It will support MetroPCS' cost structure while offering mobile broadband services.

Angel Ruiz, president of Ericsson North America, asserted in a press release, “We are proud to work with such a forward thinking company as MetroPCS as they bring their global leadership of LTE into North America. With LTE, MetroPCS will be able to meet the rapidly growing demands of its customers for new and enhanced applications as they continue to evolve and expand the possibilities of mobile broadband. Ericsson also designed a custom rapid rollout solution that will enable MetroPCS to substantially reuse existing infrastructure.”

Additionally, Ericsson has provided MetroPCS with LTE network design, optimization, engineering, implementation, integration and customer support services for the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.
