ANADIGICS's MMPA Solution Extends Battery Life, Reduces RF Space Needs in Mobile Devices

ANADIGICS, Inc., a provider of radio frequency (RF) solutions, recently announced the introduction of the ALT6181 MMPA, a new multimode multiband power amplifier (MMPA) which is based on its High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP3E) technology. The ALT6181 MMPA has been designed to offer a high level of efficiency within a single module solution supporting both quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band WCDMA/LTE mobile applications, according to company officials.

By combining performance and technology integrations, ANADIGICS’s latest offering can effectively extend battery life and bring down RF space requirements within a range of mobile devices which include handsets, smartphones and tablets, netbooks, and notebooks.

“Mobile devices continue to evolve in both form and function, creating performance and size constraint challenges on the RF front-end. ANADIGICS has responded to these challenges by continuously improving power amplifier performance and integration,” John van Saders, senior vice president of RF products at ANADIGICS, said. “The introduction of our new multimode multiband power amplifiers extends our high performance RF integration. By delivering a converged solution with industry-leading performance, we are able to provide manufacturers with greater design flexibility to enable the next-generation of mobile devices."

ANADIGICS multimode multiband power amplifiers support high performance for 1,5,6,18,19 and 26 bands under LTE, WCDMA and CDMA signal modulations. The solution has been developed to improve efficiency while the improved consumption and linearity specifications for all modulations ensure that critical harmonic, noise, and intermodulation performance deliver optimized level of phone level performance.

The company’s MMPA solution incorporates its InGaP-Plus technology and HELP framework to provide superior efficiencies for low-range and mid-range output power levels without the need for a DC-DC converter.

Supporting a compact 5 mm by 7.5 mm frame, the MMPA solution comes with an integrated voltage regulator and features separate single-ended RF chains. Also included are high directivity couplers that enable premium system performance.

The MMPA’s GSM performance is marked with high efficiencies for all power levels while the EDGE performance complies with all modulation mask requirements under any condition.
