MIPS Technologies Partners with Intrinsic-ID

MIPS Technologies, a provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital home, network and mobile applications, has announced a partnership with Intrinsic-ID to provide advanced security for MIPS-based mobile devices.

With security-centric applications such as media content protection, secure payment transactions and secure cloud storage, MIPS licensees and OEMs can enable their platforms through the collaboration. To secure the provisioning of media content from the cloud to the tablet, MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablet is using Intrinsic-ID's Confidentio IP product. Without requiring embedded non-volatile memory, Confidentio is the world's first encryption module that has built-in key storage functionality.

“As MIPS Technologies continues to gain traction in the mobile market, we are focused on enabling secure mobile SoCs based on the latest and most innovative technologies,” said Gideon Intrater, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies. “The Intrinsic-ID solution not only eliminates the need to use non-volatile memory for key storage in next-generation chips, but the solution can also be used to secure existing systems in the field. We are pleased to enable this innovative solution for our licensees and their customers,"

Publicly endorsed by leading companies in the fields of smartcards, automotive, FPGA and government applications, Intrinsic-ID's security IP is based on patented Hardware Intrinsic Security (HIS) technology. During Mobile World Congress, being held Feb. 27 to March 1 in Barcelona, Spain, MIPS and Intrinsic-ID will demonstrate the Intrinsic-ID solution on a MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablet.

Recently, the company announced that Axis Communications has tapped its multi-threaded MIPS32(R) 34Kc(TM) processor cores for its latest line of network video cameras. Axis Communications is one of the market leaders in network video and the new AXIS Q1602/-E indoor/outdoor cameras leverages Axis' unique Lightfinder technology to provide video surveillance in low-light conditions. The indoor AXIS Q1602 and the outdoor-ready AXIS Q1602-E offer customers multiple, individually configurable H.264 and Motion JPEG video streams at the same time.
