Kineto Adds VoLTE to its Smart Wi-Fi Client, Expands LTE Coverage on any Network

Kineto Wireless, Inc., one of the top innovators of solutions that deliver mobile services over broadband, announced today that it has added to its Smart Wi-Fi smartphone client ,IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based voice and messaging capabilities that are compatible with the GSMA’s Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) initiative.

Adding support for the GSMA’s IMS-based voice and messaging profile, called IR.92, means that the Kineto Smart Wi-Fi client is capable of using standard existing Wi-Fi access points to provide coverage to smartphone users when in range of a usable Wi-Fi hotspot. In other words, now that the Smart Wi-Fi client supports VoLTE, any ordinary access point can become an LTE small cell, providing better indoor coverage and capacity to any LTE network.

Vice president of corporate marketing for Kineto Wireless, Steve Shaw, stated: “Kineto is the leader in delivering mobile voice and messaging services over Wi-Fi as a seamless extension to a macro cellular radio network. Adding IMS voice and messaging support to our Smart Wi-Fi client lets mobile operators quickly extend VoLTE services to their customers over Wi-Fi, turning existing access points in the home and office into LTE small cells.”

The Kineto Smart Wi-Fi client currently runs on more than 10 million smartphones and delivers some hundreds of millions of mobile voice minutes per month over Wi-Fi networks. Smart Wi-Fi aims to provide subscribers with consistent voice and messaging regardless of the primary wireless network provider.
