We've Got a Spectrum Crunch on Our Hands

4G Americas to Address Critical Topics at Mobility Tech Conference & Expo and M2M Evolution in Austin, Texas, October 3-5, 2012, and bring its expertise in spectrum allocation, NG 9-1-1, LTE and Voice over HSPA

BELLEVUE, Wash. – June 7, 2012 – “Network capacity constraints for mobile service providers throughout the Americas, and particularly in the U.S., will soon affect their ability to offer more advanced services unless governments make more spectrum available,” said Chris Pearson, president of 4G Americas. “Additionally, smartphone and tablet sales are exploding and mobile data usage rates are skyrocketing fueling the absolute need for more spectrum.”

To strengthen this message and address other key issues and opportunities for mobile broadband, 4G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies, is endorsing the Mobility Tech Conference and Expo and M2M Evolution Conference, events jointly produced by Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) and Crossfire Media.

Both events are slated to take place October 3-5, 2012, in Austin, Texas.

4G Americas will bring its expertise in the areas of spectrum allocation, next-generation (NG) 9-1-1, LTE and LTE-Advanced technology and Voice over HSPA to the Mobility Tech Conference and Expo agenda. As an association sponsor, 4G Americas will develop four sessions covering these topics at the Mobility Tech Conference and Expo, and will moderate a session at M2M Evolution.

4G Americas has long been an advocate of underscoring the importance of the allocation of additional and internationally harmonized spectrum in order for the U.S. to continue to be a leader in the mobile broadband world. Pearson will participate in the first session at the Mobility Tech Conference and Expo, titled: “Making the Most with Spectrum at Our Hands,” which will examine the key issues surrounding the spectrum crisis and the options for its management.

Rick Whitt, director and managing counsel at Google, and Hank Hultquist, vice president, Federal Regulatory at AT&T, will join Pearson.

“There are several critical topics for the wireless industry to address in the near future, and our association’s objective is to select key industry conferences at which to address these concerns,” commented Vicki Livingston, head of communications at 4G Americas. “For this reason, we are pleased to endorse and participate at Mobility Tech and M2M Evolution.”

“4G Americas has been an active voice in the advancement of the mobile broadband ecosystem,” said Carl Ford, co-founder of Crossfire Media. “Mobility Tech Conference attendees will benefit from their deep understanding of mobility topics, including critical spectrum issues, LTE and other 3GPP technologies and we are thrilled to have them participate in our program.”

Other 4G Americas sessions at Mobility Tech Conference and Expo include:

  • You’ve Heard of VoLTE … How about Voice over HSPA?
  • All Roads Lead to LTE
  • Understanding Next Generation 9-1-1

Mobility Tech Conference and Expo will explore the new age of consumer and business mobility. The Mobility Tech conference lineup will focus on the future of the mobile Web and the delivery of personal experiences to any device, at any time and any place.

M2M Evolution brings together experts in transportation, security, health, cold chain, automotive and safety to discuss M2M applications, technologies and the impact on growth and profitability. Wireless carriers, platform companies and device manufacturers will discuss their roles in creating effective technologies and procedures that work to create an ecosystem for actionable data, information and efficiencies.
