LOROM Power Pack Looks to Keep Mobile Gear Alive

Two days ago, LOROM unveiled its new Power Pack, a portable power system designed to help get mobile devices juice when they're most in need of it, and are farthest away from potential recharge sources.

There are already several similar devices out there, but the LOROM Power Pack is something special even in a crowded market.

The LOROM Power Pack contains a core of lithium polymer composite, developed for the electric vehicle market. Yet this impressive ultra-battery is a lot more than just a smartphone charger; the LOROM Power Pack can actually provide power to tablets and even laptops – no mean feat for a portable power system which commonly stops at smartphone.

What's more is despite being this massive and impressive in terms of power output, the LOROM Power Pack can fit into a briefcase or carry-on luggage.

It also offers a variety of connection methods via standard USB mini connection, a set of highly visible LEDs that inform users of the charging condition, and a wall charging unit to allow for easy recharge, as well as the user's choice of a clamshell or a color box package.

The LOROM Power Pack is currently available; those interested will need to contact LOROM itself or one of its partner vendors.

There have been a lot of devices that recharge mobile devices. Some of them go so far as to be built into cases for smartphones. This, however, is perhaps the first such device I've heard of that's got sufficient power to give any kind of charge to a laptop. I've seen devices that could be charged from laptops, but never one that could actually charge one.

Pretty impressive. But how often a user finds himself or herself not only with a laptop in tow, but so far away from a power outlet that recharging it is impossible, is about as frequent of a situation as snagging the Loch Ness Monster at the end of your line in the Detroit River.

Still, if it can recharge a laptop, it's sure to put plenty of charge in a smartphone. That's the kind of thing many would doubtless like to have on hand, especially for those who work remotely and need access to quick power on the go, and don't necessarily want to run the risk of tapping a car's batteries.

It would likely also be a good move for multi-device households; if it can charge a laptop it can put a buzz under two smartphones and a tablet, for example. Plus, if it's as small as LOROM suggests, well, it's certainly worth looking into for those times when that little extra bit of juice is necessary.
