Sales Volumes for Apple, Samsung Now Out in Open from Court Case

More sought-after information has been released from the patent dispute trial now underway in California. Now, its sales volumes for the two litigants: Samsung and Apple.

The Invotex Group came up with U.S. sales data for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and the data on 24 different Samsung smartphones, and three versions of the Galaxy Tab.

Through the second quarter of 2012, Apple sold over 85 million iPhones in the United States. The revenue was over $50 billion.

In addition, Apple sold over 34 million iPads in the United States during the same two quarters, with revenue totaling over $19 billion.

Samsung’s sales volumes are listed for the period between June 2010 and June 2012. During this time, Samsung’s Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch sold 1.675 million units, resulting in $764 million in revenue for the company. Also, the Epic 4G sold almost 1.9 million units over its lifetime. The Verge also reported that Samsung sold 585,000 units of the original Galaxy Tab 10.1, but just 125,000 of the LTE version.

Apple was continuing its case on Friday with more witness testimony. A witness for Apple testified that 37 or 38 percent of consumers surveyed “confused” the Samsung Fascinate and Galaxy SII Epic 4G smartphones with Apple’s iPhone, according to a Bloomberg Businessweek report. There was also a “net rate” of 12 percent for consumers confusing Samsung’s tablets and Apple’s iPads, the report added.

Earlier in the case, Apple alleged that Samsung altered icons found on its smartphones to more closely look like those belonging to Apple.

Next week, Samsung gets to present its case and series of witnesses.

Apple is seeking $2.5 billion from Samsung for the alleged infringement. In addition, Apple wants a temporary ban to be made permanent on U.S. sales of a Samsung tablet. It also wants a ban on Samsung smartphones. However, Samsung countersued and claims Apple is infringing on five patents. It is after damages, as well.
