Bango Goes Live with Facebook Mobile Payments

Bango, a company founded in 1999 and publically traded on the London Stock Exchange since 2005, is focused on Web and mobile analytics, as well as on mobile billing. The company provides technology that specifically targets commerce, mobile billing and analytics for businesses that are focused on Internet-enabled mobile phone users. Bango's products collect payment from mobile users for online content and services, and provide accurate analytics for mobile marketing campaigns and sites. A number of app stores, major publishers, marketing agencies, wireless operators, as well as thousands of smaller content providers and developers use Bango products to run their mobile businesses.

Today, Bango announced that a significant customer, Facebook, is now live with Bango platform integration. Bango now provides Facebook with mobile Web carrier billing in Germany, the UK and USA as part of an improved mobile payments flow. The service is also being expanded to other countries during the remainder of 2012. The partnership with Facebook was originally announced back in February 2012.

Facebook’s mobile Web users are now able to easily purchase digital content without the use of premium SMS messages or the limitations of credit cards. Instead, users can now employ direct operator billing, paying through their phones without the need to register personal details.

This is important because industry statistics strongly suggest that most users who click “buy” are ultimately not successful in completing the process for a variety of reasons. Billing through the Bango payment platform and making it a simple carrier-based billing transaction, on the other hand, delivers an average sell-through rate of 77 percent – meaning that most users who click “buy” do in fact end up buying. The process of making the “buy” a frictionless and easy to execute command.

Commenting on the announcement, Bango CEO Ray Anderson notes that, “We’re delighted to bring Bango’s payment experience to Facebook. As the mobile web experience has matured and improved, consumers are increasingly keen to purchase digital goods on mobile devices. By ensuring a frictionless payment experience, Bango technology is unlocking the business potential of the mobile Web.”

In addition to Facebook, Bango’s existing app store connections include Blackberry App World, Opera Mobile Store and operator-led connections to Google Play. Bango has also announced an agreement to provide payment services to Amazon and has become a technology partner for MasterCard’s PayPass mobile wallet.
