Good news today in the fight against fragmentation as two devices from Pantech — the Burst smartphone and the Element tablet, both exclusive to AT&T — have now received an update to version 4.0 of Google's Android OS. Also referred to as Ice Cream Sandwich, this update brings enhanced performance and usability features to both Pantech devices, with a focus on customization tools, a refined user interface and new photo capturing and communication functions.
The Pantech Burst is billed as a fully featured 4G LTE smartphone and, indeed, equipped with a four-inch Super AMOLED display and 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, the device is more than capable of handling everyday use. The ICS update brings an improved user interface to the phone, with updated lock screens, Quick Settings, Detail Settings and improved multitasking and notifications. Other added features include a Recent Apps button for fast app switching, improved browsing and enriched camera functionality.

The Pantech Element, meanwhile, is a waterproof tablet also with 4G-LTE capabilities. Android 4.0 provides the tablet with the ability to customize the number of home screens, app folders, a redesigned settings menu and an enhanced Setup Wizard.
Both updates are available now.
“Pantech is pleased to continue empowering its customers with the latest mobile technology,” said Wyatt Whaley, vice president of product planning at Pantech Wireless. “It’s imperative to us that we consistently provide users with devices and services that are tailored to their mobile needs. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich furthers that with Burst and Element, two of our most popular products.”
Last month, AT&T released the Pantech Flex, a smartphone that allows users to choose between the full Android experience or a simplified version tailored to new users. The "Easy Experience" mode is said to be more clearly organized and easier to navigate.
Pantech recently teamed up with AT&T, in alliance with Senior TechRALLY, to kick off the Reconnect Tour, which provides tech newcomers with a fresh perspective on smartphones, tablets and wireless technology.
