Qualcomm Atheros Chipset to Power AVM FRITZ! Powerline 546E Combination Device

Qualcomm Technologies Inc.'s networking and connectivity subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, is to power AVM's FRITZ! Powerline 546E solution with its hybrid networking technology. The AVM FRITZ! Powerline 546E offers a complete home networking solution with HomePlug powerline communications (PLC), Wi-Fi, two Ethernet connections and an intelligent power socket.

All in all, this solution is capable of providing up to 500 Mbps of networking performance, as well as home automation, energy management and control capabilities.

The 546E's user interface provides an overview of the entire powerline communication network, while enabling devices to be connected via its integrated power socket. The AR7420 HomePlug powerline Qualcomm Atheros chipset provides this functionality, while the AR9341 Wi-Fi chipset extends wireless coverage in the home. The 546E also allows users to access and control appliances via any smartphone, tablet or other network-connected device.

"Qualcomm Atheros' collaboration with AVM reinforces our commitment to advancing home connectivity through the combination of our leading Wi-Fi and HomePlug PLC technologies," said John Marcolini, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Atheros. "We are providing a true plug-and-play, whole home connectivity experience with our Hy-Fi technology, enabling consumers to realize the full potential of their mobile devices from anywhere in the home."

With the introduction of its Hy-Fi technology, Qualcomm Atheros has allowed the 546E to offer a seamless combination of wired and wireless technologies, resulting in a true plug-n-play experience for the consumer.

"AVM employs tried-and-tested products and transmission technologies for home network use in its smart home designs," said Gorden Haberla, powerline product manager, AVM. "Qualcomm Atheros' expertise with hybrid networking connectivity provides significant advantages for home networking and intelligent home communication, bringing added energy cost savings to consumers."

Recently, Qualcomm Atheros released the first product in a brand new range of HomePlug AV2-compliant solutions: the QCA7450/AR1540 chipset. This chipset will enable users to use their homes' existing power outlets to improve network coverage and performance with speeds upwards of 500 Mbps.
