eVolution Networks announced on Thursday that Digicel (News - Alert) Group has chosen its Smart Energy Solution (SES) to deploy across its Jamaican network.
Digicel Group operates mobile telecom in the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific regions, and its selection of eVolution’s flagship product was based on months of testing.
Early in 2012 Digicel began testing SES (News - Alert), proving the product helps companies achieve significant reductions in energy consumption.
eVolution’s SES was fully commissioned for Digicel in October network-wide, making Digicel the first mobile operator in the world to choose the green technology and set it to use.
eVolution’s CEO Roy Morad is certain other companies will follow, however.
“We are very proud of the savings--both monetary and environmental -- which we have delivered to Digicel,” said Morad, adding that “After more than a year of close collaboration with Digicel Jamiaca, in which the value of SES has been proven, we feel confident in our ability to meet the performance and maturity expectations of future customers in markets around the world.”
Digicel should save up to $1.4 million USD annually in energy costs by using SES, which will calculate to a 23 percent reduction in RAN energy costs.
The choice of eVolution’s product was not based solely on money, however, said Digicel’s network design director Stephen Curran.
"eVolution's SES is the most mature and cost optimized energy saving platform on the market. It provides a valuable solution for cutting energy across our base stations and best positions us to capitalize on the shift to a fully green network,” Curran explained,
The SES solution reportedly fits into any multi-vendor, multi-technology network, which saves Digicel the money it would have invested in additional capital for base stations. Using this solution, Digicel’s engineers can continue working as usual without diverting their time and money to system maintenance.
In terms of energy and carbon savings, eVolution boasts 2.8 GWh and 1.5 KTCO2--savings created by SES’s fully-automated intelligent software that targets energy consumption on the base station, or cellular tower level.
“We look forward to extending our partnership with both Digicel Jamaica and the entire Digicel Group,” said Morad.
It seems Digicel is ready to extend their partnership almost immediately, as Curran noted, “Having successfully completed the deployment of eVolution’s solution across most of our base stations, we are now ready to demonstrate the full capabilities and unique advantages of the solution across our 30 other markets across the globe.”
