Wireless solution providers Radisys Corporation and Airspan have teamed up to develop a commercial LTE-Advanced small cell solution, which will be the first ever in the world.
Airspan is a provider of broadband wireless access networks, while Radisys deals with wireless infrastructure solutions, so the pairing is ideal for this type of innovative development.
“Radisys is our longtime, trusted partner as we’ve leveraged the company’s Trillium software and professional services for our small cell and macrocell products. Collaborating on the first LTE-Advanced small cell solution is a natural extension of this partnership,” said Airspan’s CTO Paul Senior.
The solution will be shown at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 25th to the 28th, with representatives from both companies in attendance. At the event, the LTE-Advanced small cell will showcase its range of features including enhanced cell edge performance, better interference mitigation and spectrum reuse, and increased aggregate throughput.
The solution is being called AirSynergy 4G, and is built on Radisys’ Trillium TOTALeNodeB small cell software, but enhanced with several key LTE-A features.
Senior commented on the choice, saying “Leveraging Trillium TOTALeNodeB for AirSynergy 4G accelerates our ability to be first to market.”
Radisys’ CTO Manish Singh explains the gist of the Trillium solution: “Our Trillium TOTALeNodeB solution has won many industry awards, but our professional services team is just as critical in enabling Airspan’s rapid market entry. Our highly skilled team works with Airspan on feature customization and platform integration and verification, ensuring state-of-the-art technology solutions.”
Other features on display at the Mobile World Congress will include AirSynergy 4G’s soft-frequency reuse capabilities, its X2-based automatic neighbor relations, its range extension, and is almost blanking subframe, and other related components.
Singh adds that AirSynergy was able to be the first of such an offering in the world because of Radisys’ highly-capable software enhanced with radio resource management, self-organizing network, and operations and maintenance functionality--all necessary for rapid deployment.
