“While the first four commercial LTE deployments in Latin America and the Caribbean took place at the end of 2011, there are 14 commercial LTE networks in nine countries today,” said Erasmo Rojas, director of Latin America and the Caribbean at industry association 4G Americas. “These LTE networks coupled with 51 commercial HSPA+ mobile broadband networks in the region reflect hundreds of millions of dollars of investment in the economy and offer vast opportunities for mobile internet connectivity and new user experiences for both the enterprise and consumers.”
In Latin America and the Caribbean, there are 14 commercial LTE networks in Antigua & Barbuda, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Paraguay and Puerto Rico. According to a report in Yahoo, 40 commercial LTE networks are expected by 2015, in addition to the 93,000 LTE connections made by the end of 2012.
Two million LTE connections are expected by the end of 2013, and 30 million LTW connections by 2017.
HSPA and HSPA+ will continue to provide the crucial foundation of mobile broadband connectivity around the globe, a future evolutionary direction, and ubiquitous fast data service. The uptake of data applications and services reflects the acceleration of mobile broadband.
Smartphones represented an average of 14 percent of the device market by the third quarter of 2012, and 28 percent of total service revenues consisted of data revenue. Mobile operators reported over 30 percent of monthly service revenue from data services in Argentina, Mexico and Venezuela.
Supported by essentially every major operator in the industry, LTW has become the global standard for the next generation of mobile networks. LTE mobile broadband is commercial on 12 different mobile networks and two fixed networks in six different spectrum bands.
