SII Mobile Gains 4G Access through InterDigital

There is very little doubt as to just how popular 4G technology is getting these days. Any company that wants to be able to compete in the business world must be able to offer 4G technology. This is the driving factor behind SII Mobile forging a partnership with InterDigital, Inc.

InterDigital is a wireless research company that has agreed to share its patent holdings with SII Mobile.

By sharing the patent license agreements, SII will have the ability to operate in accordance with standards issued for 2G and 3G wireless communications. It’ll also be able to operate on numerous 4G networks.

Operating on 4G networks is the only way companies like SII know how to stay ahead of their competition into the foreseeable future. The firm is a subsidiary of Seiko Instruments LLC and is headquartered in Japan.

The technologies will be able to now operate on all kinds of different 4G networks, including LTE and LTE-advanced. The patent license agreement the two companies have entered into will allow SII to have access to royalty bearing coverage for certain technologies.

These patents are non-transferable, so that InterDigital can still control who has access to the technologies.

"We are pleased that SII Mobile Communications has agreed to extend their patent coverage to include 4G, reflecting InterDigital's growing portfolio of 4G patents," said Lawrence F. Shay, president of InterDigital's patent holding subsidiaries. "With the signing of another licensee to our 4G portfolio, we continue the 4G licensing momentum we have shown over the last several months. As the 4G product market continues to grow, we expect more licensees to amend their patent license agreements with us to cover their 4G products and we expect our recurring royalties beyond 2G and 3G royalties to increase as well."
