Blu Products Introduces Three Entry-Level Android Smartphones for Under $300

Want a sexy new phone but don’t have the better part of $1,000 to spare? A company called BluProducts may have the phone for you. The company recently introduced three new affordable Android phones that come with a lot of the sexy features that many people pay an arm and a leg for.

The phones, called Life One, Life View and Life Play, all run Android 4.2 and have a MediaTek MT6589 1.2 GHz quad-core chipset with an ARM Cortex-A7 processor and a PowerVR Series5XT GPU. They support HSPA+ data connectivity with speeds of up to 41 Mbps and have dual-SIM cards. The difference between the models include the size of the displays, the amount of memory and the megapixels in the cameras.

According to Android Community, the Life One has a solid aluminum body and a five-inch HD resolution display covered in Gorilla Glass 2, plus a 13-megapixel rear camera, a five-megapixel front camera, 16 GB of storage and 1 GB of RAM. It will retail for $299. The Life View has a 5.7-inch HD resolution display and a 12-megapixel rear camera, plus a five-megapixel front camera, 16 GB of storage and 1 GB of RAM. It will also retail for $299. The Life Play features a 4.7-inch screen and an eight-megapixel rear camera, a two-megapixel front camera, 4 GB of storage, and 1 GB of RAM. It will sell for $229.

Florida-based Blu Products will sell the phones unlocked and contract-free through online retailers such as Amazon. The company says it can sell phones cheaper than many of its competitors because it doesn’t engage in the same kind of hyper-marketing companies like Samsung and Motorola do.

Time’s tech writer Jared Newman notes that while the price may be right, it’s worth noting that none of Blu Products’ phones support LTE, and in most areas they’ll only support AT&T’s network for 3G and HSPA+ data speeds, making it perhaps ideal as an entry-level smartphone.
