Apple Reveals Security Update, Version 6.1.3: Created to Fix Lock Screen Flaw

News from a source within AppleInsider has revealed that Apple issued an update for iOS devices, version 6.1.3, on Tuesday to fix a lock screen security flaw discovered last month. It is said to put an end to the vulnerability bug that put mobile users at risk of having an outsider gain access to their data and mess with their file system, just from having unlocked the device.

This inappropriate action is referred to as jailbreaking.

Nonetheless, Apple came through this month to deliver a security update to repair the lock screen passcode vulnerability that made it possible for a hacker to bypass and exploit one of the iOS devices, whether it’s an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

With malicious intent, a stranger could search through and misuse the users’ system files.

Even though many didn’t know about the security flaw, or suffered no consequence of the former version, 6.1.2, AppleInsider advises one to download and install the current version as it cannot be jailbroken, while the previous one can (as well as those before it).

Security experts declare jailbreaking an iDevice is not safe, as it can open the product to new vulnerabilities, damage applications, or worse, crash the system. Yet there are those who choose to ignore what the experts say and do it anyway, usually to increase the functionality of their iOS device and perhaps make it work in ways not native to the device.

All things considered, Apple takes user security very seriously. Not only has the firm rectified this technical hole, but the new version 6.1.3 makes improvements to its iOS Maps application via an over-the-air update.

Those interested in applying the current version can do so through General > Software Update in their iOS Settings, or connect the device to iTunes where it can be obtained.
