Rejuvenated Dallas Love Field Lights Up New Wi-Fi Network from Boingo

Dallas Love Field is a general purpose airport that is owned by the city of Dallas, TX. It has been undergoing what it calls a “dramatic evolution” – the airport is being improved under the Love Field Modernization Program. This is designed to transform the airport into one of the nation’s premiere, modern airport facilities.

Boingo was founded in 2001 by the same person who founded EarthLink, Sky Dayton. It is a public company that provides global Wi-Fi services at more than 400,000 hotspots worldwide. These hotspots include airports, stadiums, hotels and many cafes and coffee shops.

On April 10, 2013 Boingo announced that its new state-of-the-art neutral host Wi-Fi network would be available at Dallas Love Field airport. This coincides with the airport’s launch of its upgraded North Concourse.

Boingo’s new carrier grade 802.11n network has been optimized to provide service to the growing number of passengers. Each of whom will be using mobile devices and needed access to Wi-Fi. The Boingo network is designed to enhance the passengers’ experience in the airport.

The newly expanded and modernized terminal will also be getting a new WLAN network from Boingo. They will soon be launching a new multi-carrier Distributed Antenna System (DAS) network. This new network is supposed to deliver enhanced performance for carriers and their customers.

The DAS network is also designed to bring in new revenue opportunities to the airport. Boingo’s neutral host approach to Wi-Fi and DAS is supposed to ensure network availability to all wireless service providers without bias, including Boingo’s roaming and platform service partners such as Sprint, Skype, Verizon and NTT DOCOMO.

Casual Wi-Fi users can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi as they wander around Dallas Love Field while waiting for their flights. The Boingo Wi-Fi network will provide high-speed, high-capacity wireless connectivity with flexible service options for business and leisure travelers. This, of course, means that they will have to pay to use the service.

Mark Deshaies, vice president of operations for Boingo Wireless, said, “Our new wireless network was designed to expand with Dallas Love Field, and to handle the projected explosive growth in data traffic from consumer demand and the coming Wi-Fi offload protocols. We look forward to continuing our work with Dallas Love Field to enhance customer satisfaction and provide new monetization opportunities via our advanced wireless network.”

Director of Aviation for the City of Dallas, Mark Duebner followed up by saying, “Boingo’s state-of-the-art network is the perfect complement to the newly modernized, world-class Dallas Love Field. Boingo’s best-in-class wireless services help us deliver on our promise to provide the most advanced and desirable amenities to passengers at the new Love Field.”

The new Boingo network is intended to also facilitate the delivery of a wide range of communications services to Dallas Love Field tenants and passengers this includes hold-room entertainment. Boingo is the largest neutral host provider of airport DAS in the United States, managing Wi-Fi services at more than 65 airports worldwide.
