On Wednesday April 17, 2013 an update was released to the Windows Phone app for Facebook. One day following this release, another update was then unveiled. Are you following along? This update didn’t involve any major product update; instead it corrects a bug that was found in the last update.
It seems that the bug caused the Facebook application to constantly crash. According to Ubergizmo, a company that claims to be geeks to the core, since Microsoft are the ones behind the official Facebook for the Windows Phone platform, it would mean official Facebook software developers are unable to keep track of it too well.
It would appear that reviews for the Facebook for Windows Phone 8 app contain a lot of complaints concerning the app. It is clear that people were not happy giving the app only one star as a rating.
Some of the comments left by individuals were, “It is horrible. Please make a better app!,” “Crashes a lot more often since last update”, “I can’t like any pictures without it closing? Can’t unfriend or share anything”, “Not working for me anymore.” “When I click on a post it takes me back to my phone screen. I enjoyed it till now.” “Please fix problem,” and “Needs an update.”
According to Joe Belfiore, a member of the Windows Phone product team the Facebook bug has been fixed. Belfiore commented, “Thanks to our friends at Facebook: a new FB app update is now in Store. It addresses a crash some people were hitting in the last update.”
The problem only affects you if you are running Windows Phone 8 4.2. This seems to be the only release that was affected. If your phone is still running Windows Phone 7 2.7 then you will not be affected.
In all fairness, it did take Microsoft only one day to find and fix the bug. Presumably, everything is working fine now and all is well with Facebook and the Windows Phone app.
